Green appliances: water-efficient systems

The autumn and winter of 2021 and the first half of 2022 were characterised by a lack of rainfall. In addition, the scorching heat of the summer months, combined with the persistent lack of rain, has triggered drought alerts across the country. Italy has found itself facing a real water crisis that has contributed to highlighting the high importance of saving such a precious commodity as water, reducing waste wherever possible. How can we avoid wasting water in view of this new emergency and help protect the environment?

Nowadays there are green household appliances, conceived and designed to facilitate domestic activities while respecting the health of the planet.
The definition of a green-oriented household appliance does not only include appliances that avoid energy waste but also refers to devices manufactured following a low environmental impact production cycle that can help limit water and detergent consumption.
In this article, we shed light on new green appliances with a focus on water-efficient washing machines and dishwashers.

Water-efficient washing machines and dishwashers

Following the recent water emergency situation, awareness of more responsible use of available resources seems to be growing. With a view to saving and optimising water resources, technological appliances designed to avoid waste and increase comfort are of fundamental importance. From the laundry area to dishwashers, today the market has a range of innovative and advanced solutions that guarantee consumers excellent performance with reduced water consumption. Let's find out how.

The latest generations of smart washing machines are devices with energy class A and low water consumption: these are models equipped with artificial intelligence, capable of selecting the most appropriate washing programme based on the load and type of fabrics. With specific programmes at low temperatures and short washing times, unnecessary rinsing and wastage of detergent and energy is avoided while saving on electricity and water by optimising consumption. The advantage is that efficient and effective washing management does not preclude the guarantee of high performance. Furthermore, another advantage of smart washing machines lies in remote control via apps on smartphones or through the most popular home automation ecosystems.

Today, appliance manufacturers are committed to offering end users an eco-sustainable alternative to traditional washing. This has led to the advent of eco-friendly dishwashers: more efficient energy classes, fast programmes, expertly dosed detergent and reduced water consumption. Those who design water-efficient dishwashers implement these devices with advanced sensors and technologies that are able to automatically detect the amount of dishes loaded and the level of soiling, in order to adjust water and energy consumption accordingly. These intelligent devices automatically adapt the parameters and the wash cycle to ensure maximum cleanliness, saving up to 50% water and time. Another feature among these water-efficient systems is the water recycling tank: some models are equipped with a special tank to store the water from the last rinse, which can then be reused for the next wash cycle. This helps to further reduce the use of this resource.

In conclusion, today it is also up to manufacturers of large and small household appliances (a link to the article Household appliances: an overview will be included) to make people truly aware of the environmental impact of electrical appliances by offering them quality products with a wide range of innovative, up-to-date features.
