Companies in the industrial sector are considered among the main heavy consumers of electricity in the country. Today we often hear about corporate sustainability: a new type of approach to business that requires these companies to rethink their organisation transversally, to reduce the impact on the environment in a significant way. Especially in recent years, the review of production processes with a view to decarbonisation and environmental sustainability is an essential step for any company that wants to look to the future and focus on ecology and energy transition.
SLIM Srl knows how important it is, even for an SME like ours, to pay attention to issues related to environmental pollution and climate change. That is why, in our own small way, we have been making a concrete commitment to this for several years. Starting from the limitation of polluting substances and difficult to dispose of, according to Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS II) and European Regulation No. 1907/2006 (REACH) on the environment, which we scrupulously follow for the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Until 2012, with the installation of a photovoltaic system for the generation of clean electricity. Today, 10 years later, we decided to expand this project as we believe in an even more sustainable future. In this article we present the new photovoltaic system.Click on the button below to find out more about the company!
The installation of the new SLIM photovoltaic system has recently been completed. This involves the commissioning of 300 monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic panels that have been placed on the roof of the warehouse of our production department, with an inverter and a monitoring device. Before proceeding with the choice of the type of system, a feasibility study was carried out with specific analyses and assessments on the necessary energy needs (including energy consumption, power load and time slots of use), an analysis of the building and the space available (including roofs, canopies and unused areas) in order to understand the size and power of the photovoltaic suitable to be installed in order to respond effectively to the needs of our company. Thanks to the chosen solution, 40% of the energy used to operate the production machinery will be produced directly from renewable sources. In addition, we are considering concentrating the activities with the highest consumption in the time slots in which the photovoltaic systems produce more to make the most of the green energy produced. For example, by extending the operating hours of the moulding machines during the summer we will use the greater hours of light and sunshine of the summer days.
To date, the installation of solar panels has allowed to produce a quantity of energy equal to 943,543.7 kWh, thus avoiding CO2 emissions of 500,077.79 kg. This data is continuously improving with the upgrade of the newly renovated system.
The transformation of solar energy into electricity takes place with a view to decarbonisation and allows not only energy efficiency, but also an economic advantage based on current energy costs (increasing following the energy crisis and the delicate issue of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict).
The installation of the new photovoltaic system is therefore a concrete commitment of the company in a journey of transition towards sustainability. Our greatest effort is aimed at energy saving through the use of renewable energy, the optimisation of consumption with the introduction of the new ICO-F machinery and the progressive replacement of current equipment with models equipped with energy saving systems.
